I feel incredibly ignorant for not knowing the 6th amendment didn't apply for non-criminal immigration hearings. I know this is information I've learned previously, but it didn't stick. I can't imagine how scary it is to be locked up with no one explaining what's happening.
And to read about the pleasing guilty for petty crimes just to get out of jail because the sentence would have been shorter than the pretrial detainment---only to learn you're now deportable---that is so dystopian.
